Málokterý zločinec na světě dokáže se zlatem to, čeho je schopen Auric Goldfinger. Zároveň nesnese, aby mu kdokoliv stál v cestě. James Bond mu sice překazí partičku karet, ale žena, kterou donutil aby mu pomohla, zemře. Také Agent 007 nemá při honičce s Goldfingerem šanci. Dostane se do rukou muže připravujícího útok na americkou základnu Fort Knox. Kupodivu zlato z pevnosti nechce ukrást, ale atomovým výbuchem jej na mnoho let znehodnotit. Zlato by totiž zůstalo šedesát let radioaktivní a nepoužitelné.
