Half-Life 2

Gordon Freeman became the most popular nameless and voiceless protagonist in gaming history. He is painted as the most famous scientist and a hero within the world of Half-Life, and for a good reason. In the first game he saved the planet from alien invasion, this time, when the invasion is already begun, the world needs his help one more time. And you, as a player, will help this world to survive. This time Gordon arrives in City 17, ravaged and occupied by Combines, where he meets his old Black Mesa friends.

What is different, aside from the overall design quality, is the use of Valve’s Source engine that not only expands on the fluidity of character model animations and movement but allows players to interact with a myriad of objects with the advanced and realistic (to an extent) physics. Classic Headcrab Zombies are revamped and have new variants that provide players with different threats. For a story-driven FPS, Half-Life 2 is unique in its plot delivery, and making in-game mechanics feel natural, be it platforming or driving.

Burnout 3: Takedown

Boasting multiple single-player, multiplayer and online crash and race modes, Burnout 3 offers players the opportunity to race through busy city streets and be rewarded for taking risks that result in heart-pounding action and electrifying crashes.

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is a first person action-adventure video game developed by Retro Studios and published by Nintendo for the GameCube video game console. It is the seventh published game in the Metroid series, a sequel to Metroid Prime, and the first game in the series with a multiplayer feature. Echoes was released in North America, Europe, and Australia in 2004; and in Japan under the name Metroid Prime 2: Dark Echoes in May 2005. The story of Echoes follows bounty hunter Samus Aran after she is sent to rescue Galactic Federation Marines from a ship near Aether, a planet inhabited by a race known as the Luminoth. There, she discovers that the troops were slaughtered by the Ing, a race that came from an alternate dimension of Aether. Samus must travel to three temples to ensure the destruction of the Ing, while battling Space Pirates and her mysterious doppelgänger called Dark Samus. Retro decided to make the game different from its predecessor by adding more focus on storyline and including new gameplay elements. Nintendo launched a viral marketing campaign to promote the game that included several websites written as if taking place in the Metroid universe. Echoes' single player mode and graphics were praised by critics, while its steep difficulty level and multiplayer components were met less positively. Since its release, Echoes has received several video game industry awards, as well as spots on "top games" lists by Nintendo Power and IGN. Over 800,000 copies of the game were sold worldwide. In 2009, an enhanced version was released for Wii as a standalone game in Japan and as part of Metroid Prime: Trilogy internationally.

ROME: Total War

Rome: Total War is a turn-based strategy. It is third of the numerous Total War titles: the main series counts as many as 13 titles, with 4 games being spin-offs. Rome: Total War is estimated to be one of the best PC strategies. The story follows a line of three Roman families: Julii, Brutii, or Scipii. The story takes place in the late Roman Empire. As the plot is driven entirely by the player's actions, it is possible to have numerous outcomes — one's story may end at the end of a battle, while another may start at the same time. There are dramatic gameplay differences in the title: the concept of a city is introduced: a fraction is considered defeated when it loses all the cities. The city can be lost in three ways: either conquered, bribed or contracted. There are a total of 21 fractions within a game with each economy being summed up by some factors: trade industry, taxes, agriculture, and mining.

Tekken 5

Tekken 5 (鉄拳5) is a fighting game developed and published by Namco in 2004 for the arcades and in 2005 for the PlayStation 2. It is the fifth canonical installment, and sixth main installment, in the Tekken series, marking the tenth anniversary of the series. The game was upgraded to Tekken 5.1, which had mostly balance changes to the gameplay, and later an update Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection which was released for arcades in 2005 and later ported to the PlayStation Portable as Tekken: Dark Resurrection and on the PlayStation 3. The game removes several major gameplay changes introduced in Tekken 4, such as uneven stage terrain, in favor of a faster gameplay akin to the older games in the series. It is also the first game in the series to feature the ability to customize characters with accessories, clothing, and other aesthetic items purchased with in-game currency. There are up to 32 characters to choose from, including seven new fighters. The home version includes a mode known as Devil Within, a variant of Tekken Force introduced in Tekken 3. Unlike Tekken 5.1 which merely tried to balance the game, the update Dark Resurrection adds a host of new content, especially in its home version for the PSP. Tekken 5 was a critical and commercial success, selling over six million copies. A sequel, Tekken 6, was released in 2007.

DOOM 3

DOOM 3 is a first-person shooter, the third installment in the series, serving as a reboot to the previous games. ###Plot As the game is set in a science fiction universe, the events span accordingly. The year is 2145, and the technological progress has allowed humanity to set up different facilities on Mars. After an experiment goes wrong, the research center becomes inhabited by demons. The player controls a nameless space marine, fighting off hordes of enemies through a variety of levels. ###Gameplay The playable character employs a large arsenal of weaponry for his cause, from common firearms to the series’s trademark BFG9000. Each level of the game is linear, as the player must often either retrieve information, some device or reach the checkpoint. However, there are numerous obstacles on the way to the objective: the protagonist has to fight off not only demons and their servants, but also combat the natural enemy in the form of darkness. ###Graphics and music The engine of the game incorporates lighting and shadowing, making every object in the game feel real and natural. The textures are designed to be unappealing, as a psychological tool to ensure the player’s urge to get rid of the enemies and escape the dark and ruined corridors, but at the same time, the level of detail in each location and each enemy is very high.

Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy

###Meet Nick Scryer. An American soldier with a difference. Slightly more than your typical grunt, Nick belongs to the Psi-Ops division, a section devoted to tapping into latent human psychic and telekinetic powers and exploiting them for military purposes. Scryer's latest mission is to infiltrate and take down a psychic terrorist organization known as 'The Movement'. These mentally-enhanced menaces have been kidnapping troops and manipulating their minds to turn them into unfeeling, unthinking 'Meat Puppets', and it's Scryer's task to put an end to it. As he's attempting to penetrate an organization run by mind-readers, extreme measures have been taken to prevent detection. Scryer has his mind-wiped and his face completely altered to prevent detection by former friends, which leaves him without any knowledge of his powerful psychic powers. Soon after, he's incarcerated after being captured by The Movement, and it's in this prison that he becomes your personal meat puppet. Help Nick to gradually rediscover his devastating mental abilities - including pyrokinesis (the power to manipulate fire), remote viewing (see through walls and doors), and mind control - in Midway's stunning and highly original new adventure. ###Details It's Nick Scryer's psionic abilities that set Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy apart from the myriad action-adventure titles on the market. Abilities such as telekinesis, which allows you to lift and throw objects - including humans - around are not only intuitive to control but great fun with it. This is largely down to the brilliant Havok physics engine, which makes all items react realistically to your actions. Send a barrel flying into a stack of boxes, and they'll all come crashing down; 'grab' an enemy, and you can repeatedly smash them into walls or even shoot at them as they hover helplessly in the air. And that's only one of the six powers on offer. Set fire to an object using pyrokinesis, and you can use it to set surrounding objects aflame too; use mind control to take over a foe and use him to blast his accomplices before forcing him to throw himself down a chasm; or sneak behind an unwitting Meat Puppet and use mind drain to sap his psionic energy and blow his head up in the process... The possibilities are numerous, and the game doesn't shy away from giving you an opportunity to improvise with what you have. Need to cross a huge gap with plenty of gun-toting fiends on the other side? Well, you could create a bridge using the objects around you, surf across on a suitably-shaped item, or just use mind control to deal with the distant threat and then safely walk around the hole. It's completely up to you. ###Features -Command six powerful psionic abilities: Telekinesis, Pyrokinesis, Mind Control, Mind Drain, Remote Viewing and Aura View -Open-ended game structure - solve puzzles and defeat enemies the way you want to -Realistic physics - throw enemies around the room, create fires, build blockades, and even 'surf' on objects

The court jester Dhoulmagus of the kingdom of Trodain stole a powerful magical scepter sealed beneath the royal castle. Using the power of the scepter, Dhoulmagus destroyed the castle, placed a curse upon the kingdom and its people, and turned King Trode into a troll and the princess into a horse. A sole surviving castle guard journeys with the king, the princess, a reformed bandit named Yangus and a few other companions in search of the evil jester and a way to break the curse. Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King is a traditional Japanese-style role-playing game with random enemy encounters, simple turn-based combat mechanics, and management of a party consisting of four characters, each belonging to a clearly defined class. Unlike its predecessors in the series and most Japanese RPGs in general, the game features a continuous world with fairly vast landscapes and integrated towns and dungeons, as opposed to world map traveling and locations represented by icons. The game features full camera rotation and optional first-person view. Like in the previous Dragon Quest games, many objects can be interacted with; for example, barrels can be physically lifted, carried, and broken, to reveal items hidden within. In addition to experience points, the player receives skill points from battles, which can be manually allocated into a skill category of the player's choice. These categories include three different kinds of weapons, fisticuffs, and a discipline unique to each character. After a required amount of skill points has been invested into a particular category, the correspondent character learns a new ability or becomes more proficient with the chosen weapon. The Alchemy Pot system allows players to gather recipes and mix items to create new ones. The international version of the game features several updates to the original Japanese version, including voice acting, graphic menu, symphonic soundtracks, and flashier effects.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is an action adventure game and a part of the vast Prince of Persia series which includes ten titles overall. Sands of Time precede it and followed by The Two Thrones ###Gameplay All the big titles in the series feature pretty much the same mechanics: 3D platforming with a heavy focus on the fighting elements and parkour. The game is the first in the group to have a non-linear structure with the protagonist returning to the previously visited areas and opening hidden paths with the new tools acquired along the way. The fighting system presents wielding two weapons at a time with the latter being divided into two main categories: melee — primary weapons and throwable — secondary ones. ###Gameplay The events depicted in the game take place seven years after the previous game in the series — The Sands of Time. The narrative centers around the antagonism of the protagonist of The Prince and Dahaka — the mystical beast, hunting him because he released the Sands of Time in the previous installment. The game features two endings: a canonical "good" one the storyline of which is transferred in the next chapter of The Prince's journey and the "bad" one.
