19 Part One: Boot Camp

19 Part One: Boot Camp is a visceral simulation that immerses players in the experience of a young American draftee during the escalation of the Vietnam War in 1965. The game begins by contrasting the comfortable civilian life of a 19-year-old with the jarring reality of conscription. Players are thrust into the grueling world of basic training, where they must navigate the physical and psychological challenges of military preparation. Through a series of intense exercises, the game tests the player's coordination, stamina, and morale, offering a realistic portrayal of the transformation from civilian to soldier. Boot Camp serves as a powerful introduction to the broader Vietnam War experience, setting the stage for the dramatic personal and historical events to follow.

Rimrunner

An insectoid race travels the galaxy and colonizes uninhabited and long dead planets. Force shields were created to protect their planets from the constant attacks of the arachnoids. The force shield generators need regular recharging, a task for which a group of elite insectoid warriors was created. Riding their reptilian mounts (Runners) they patrol the colonies, recharging the generators and destroying any hostile lifeforms that have penetrated the shield. Players have to guide one of these warriors through horizontally scrolling levels, shooting at hostile lifeforms and seeking out shield generators that need recharging. A radar at the top of the screen shows the players position, as well as the position and status of the shield generators. Green generators are stable, flashing generators are unstable and red generators need to be recharged. Enemy attacks deplete the warriors health and might knock him of his Runner. On foot, the warrior is much slower and can't walk very far (the levels stop scrolling), but it is necessary to dismount the Runner to be able to recharge the generators.

Hanjuku Hero

The first game in the series, released in 1988 for Famicom. It was re-released on the Virtual Console in 2007 for the Wii, in 2013 for the Nintendo 3DS and in April 2014 for the Wii U. Hanjuku Hero is a real-time strategy RPG game. A king used the power of a mysterious egg to unify a continent. However, he suddenly died a day after the unification, and the countries subjected to his rule revolted. The king's heir, the young prince must work with those few still loyal to the king and learn to use the power of the egg to bring order back to the continent. You have to journey throughout the continent with your allies to try and capture enemy castles. Upon reaching a castle, a battle will begin. Battles can also occur in the field. You have no control over these battles, as the stronger team usually prevails. Traditional RPG elements such as HP and money are present. The game has a humorous edge to it, featuring Japanese puns.

Ninja Gaiden

Ninja Gaiden, released in Japan as Ninja Ryūkenden (Japanese: 忍者龍剣伝, literally "Legend of the Ninja Dragon Sword") and as Shadow Warriors in Europe, is a side-scrolling action-platforming video game. It was developed and published by Tecmo for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES); its development and release coincided with the beat 'em up arcade version of the same name. It was released in December 1988 (1988-12) in Japan, in March 1989 in North America, and in August 1991 (1991-08) in Europe. It has been ported to several other platforms, including the PC Engine, the Super NES, the Virtual Console, and mobile phones. The story follows a ninja named Ryu Hayabusa as he journeys to America to avenge his murdered father. There, he learns that a person named "the Jaquio" plans to take control of the world by unleashing an ancient demon through the power contained in two statues. Featuring platforming gameplay similar to Castlevania, players control Ryu through six "Acts" that comprise 20 levels; they encounter enemies that must be dispatched with Ryu's katana and other secondary weapons. Ninja Gaiden has been renowned for its elaborate story and usage of anime-like cinematic cutscenes. It received extensive coverage and won several awards from video gaming magazines, while criticism focused on its high and unforgiving difficulty, particularly in the later levels. Over fifteen years after its release, the game continued to receive acclaim from print and online publications. It was novelized as part of the Worlds of Power NES game adaptations written by Seth Godin and Peter Lerangis, and it spawned a soundtrack CD.
