V roce 2028 je nadnárodní konglomerát OmniCorp vedoucím lídrem v oblasti robotických technologií. Jejich drony jsou již dlouhá léta využívány armádami po celém světě a OmniCorpu přibývají na účtech miliardy dolarů . Jedinou metou, kterou se jim dosud nepodařilo dosáhnout, je úspěch na domácí půdě, kde jsou jejich technologie stále považovány za příliš kontroverzní. Ale v jistém momentě přijde ke zlomu. Alex Murphy je milující manžel a otec, který pracuje jako policista a dosahuje vynikajících výsledků v boji s kriminalitou a korupcí v Detroitu. – Až do chvíle, kdy utrpí rozsáhlé zranění. OmniCorp najednou dostane jedinečnou příležitost – zachránit špičkového policistu. A tak se v odvážném experimentu zrodí RoboCop – napůl člověk a napůl stroj, dokonalý protivník všech kriminálních živlů. OmniCorp už plánuje jeho nasazení v co největším počtu míst, ale nepočítají s tím, že uvnitř stroje je myslící lidská bytost, která nedokáže potlačit vzpomínky na svou minulost .
