Devatenáctiletou Alenku, občanským jménem Alice Kingsleyovou, čeká zážitek, na který hned tak nezapomene. Když ji na viktoriánské zahradní slavnosti na její počest požádá o ruku Hamish, bohatý, ale přihlouplý syn lorda a lady Ascotových, sebere se a uteče pryč. Vydá se za králíkem v saku a s kapesními hodinkami, kterého viděla pospíchat po louce. Bílý králík (kterého namluvil Michael Sheen) záhy zmizí do králičí nory.
