V této krimikomedii z roku 1936 honí policista Danny Barr (Cary Grant) bandu lupičů šperků. Eva Fallonová (Joan Bennett) je novinářka, s Dannym spolupracuje, sice neustále mají drobné rozepře, nicméně směřování jejich vztahu je jasné. Danny se dostane na stopu Cortigovi, členovi gangu, při pronásledování ale padouchova zbloudilá kulka zabije v parku dítě. Za pomoci křivého právníka a zastrašení očitého svědka ale Cortig unikne spravedlnosti, Danny odejde od policie a Eva se z redakce vrátí ke své původní profesi manikýrky, oba jsou výsledkem naprosto zhnuseni. V salonu ale Eva jednou vyslechne důležitou informaci a Danny se opět dostane na horkou stopu. Podaří se dvojici dosáhnout nakonec přece jen spravedlnosti? Dobová typická komedie, vše je jak má být, hašteřící se dvojice se ve skutečnosti miluje, blondýna má žvýkačku a vtipné poznámky, Cary Grant je mladý a krásný, s dobrými to dopadne dobře a se špatnými špatně.
