Skutečný příběh Gerryho Conlona, nevýznamného zlodějíčka žijícího ve znesvářeném Belfastu 70. let. Když si Gerry znepřátelí IRA, otec ho raději pošle do Anglie. Ani tam se ale Gerry nechová jako svatoušek a jednoho dne se kvůli svým kouskům objeví v nesprávnou dobu na nesprávném místě. Nevinný, ale pod tlakem donucený doznat účast na krvavém bombovém útoku, se jako jeden ze členů „Guildfordovy čtyřky“ ocitá ve vězení s doživotním trestem. Ve spolupráci se svou neúnavnou a ctižádostivou advokátkou se Gerry pouští do bitvy, na jejímž konci chce dokázat svou nevinu, očistit jméno svého otce a odhalit pravdu, která se skrývá za jedním z nejhanebnějších procesů v dějinách.
