Mladý chirurg Jed Hill nedávno nastoupil do nemocnice v městečku Westerly. Úspěšně zvládne operaci dívky, těžce zraněné neznámým násilníkem. Není to první případ, kdy se obětí stala studentka a policie není schopna zajistit dívkám bezpečnost, čímž je mladý děkan fakulty Andy Safian znepokojen. Jeho manželka Tracy pracuje v nemocnici jako dobrovolná ošetřovatelka dětí, a tak Andy zjistí, že Jad je jeho spolužákem ze střední školy. Nabídne mu pronájem pokoje v jejich nově pořízeném domku. Jenže nový nájemník vede poněkud hlučšný noční život s častými dámskými návštěvami. Jendoho dne najde Andy na své zahradě mrtvou další ze svých studentek – je zřejmě novou obětí úchylného vraha. Detektivka Harrisová mu naznačí, že i on sám je mezi podezřelými.
