Řetězec dramatických událostí se spustí ve chvíli, kdy se tlumočnice OSN Silvia Broom přizná, že náhodou zaslechla rozhovor v neobvyklém africkém dialektu, jemuž kromě ní rozumí jen málokdo a jehož obsahem byla plánovaná vražda jistého afrického prezidenta. Silviin život se po tomto doznání obrátí vzhůru nohama, protože se stane terčem neznámých zabijáků. Přestože o její bezpečí začne pečovat FBI, konkrétně agent Tobin Keller, ohrožení Silvie se paradoxně ještě zvyšuje. Keller totiž začne zkoumat minulost své chráněnky a pomalu v něm narůstá přesvědčení, že by i ona mohla být do spiknutí proti hlavě státu zapletena. Je Sylvia obětí nebo hlavním podezřelým? A dokáže ji takto rozpolcený agent vůbec ochránit?
