Official Nikolai Pokrovsky marries young Vera, his colleague. The newlyweds are not quite happy. Necessity makes Vera sell home-made cakes. Arriving from America, Obolensky, a longtime friend of Pokrovsky, conquers the heart of Vera from the first days of their acquaintance.
