31. října, malé americké městečko Haddonfield. Jako šestiletý tu Michael Myers ubodal velkým kuchyňským nožem svou starší sestru. Dnes, po patnácti letech strávených na psychiatrické klinice, se sem vrací, aby mohl pokračovat ve svém díle. Nemá konkrétně vybrané oběti, zabíjí náhodně. Když si ale někoho vyhlédne, nic ho před ukojením jeho krvelačné touhy nezastaví. Tou aktuálně utíkající a křičící je shodou okolností jeho mladší sestra Laurie.
