Píše se rok 2033. Po srážce s kometou na Zemi několik let nepršelo a voda je zboží, za které se platí životem. Civilizace je v troskách. Prakticky všechny vodní zdroje má pod kontrolou společnost Voda a proud, kterou vede její sadistický majitel Kesslee. Proti němu se postaví anarchistická členka zlodějské pouštní bandy Rebecca, která jako jedna z mála přežila brutální nájezd Kessleeho komanda. Dívka musí zpočátku otročit v Kessleeho dolech. Podaří se jí však utéct. S pomocí mladé mechaničky Jet, pouštních zabijáků Trhačů (což jsou mutanti klokanů a lidí) a starého tanku pak proti všemocné firmě rozpoutá válku na život a na smrt... Americký film režisérky Rachel Talalayové vznikl podle stejnojmenného britského komiksu. Ve vedlejší roli dívky Jet uvidí diváci pozdější hvězdu Naomi Wattsovou, ďábelského padoucha Kessleeho si střihl Malcolm McDowell.
