Příběh King Konga filmoví fanoušci důvěrně znají z několika filmových zpracování. Petera Jacksona nejvíce ovlivnila slavná verze z roku 1933. Ostatně do třicátých let minulého století situoval i svého King Konga. "Původní film samozřejmě zůstane nedostižný. My se mu s naším remakem můžeme maximálně přiblížit. Má ale tak úžasný příběh, že jsem se rozhodl znovu vstoupit do stejné řeky. S moderními prostředky to navíc nepostrádá smysl," říká režisér. Ten například znovu využil služeb herce Andyho Serkise, jenž pomocí technologie motion capture skvěle předehrával počítačového Gluma v PÁNOVI PRSTENŮ. V King Kongovi se stal Serkis dokonce předobrazem pro titulního hrdinu. "S využitím nejnovějších technologií jsme mohli prakticky cokoliv. Představte si ty nejúžasnější sekvence příběhu - King Kong bojující s dinosaury, King Kong šplhající s Anne po Empire State Building, a to všechno bude naprosto realistické," rozplývá se Jackson
