Druhá filmová verze hry W. Shakespeara (poprvé ji zfilmoval v roce 1944 L. Olivier) je režijním debutem irského shakespearovského herce a dnes již známého režiséra K. Branagha, který se pokusil příběh mladého anglického krále aktualizovat a oprostit ho od tradičního pojetí: jeho králem zmítají pochybnosti a trpí pocitem osamělosti i když se stává vítězem a přebírá francouzský trůn. Vedle dynamických a realistických bitevních scén upoutá ve filmu především K. Branagh ve "zpsychologizovaní" roli Jindřicha V.
