Život hrdiny filmu Drewa Baylora se ale aktuálně ocitl v "hororové" fázi. Kvůli fatální chybě přišel o prestižní práci, dokonalou přítelkyni, a když má pocit, že už ho nic horšího potkat nemůže, sestřin telefonát mu oznámí úmrtí otce. Během smutné cesty do jeho rodného městečka Elizabethtown na pohřeb narazí Drew na sympatickou letušku Claire, která je doslova ztělesněný optimismus, a Drewovi dokáže, že štěstí lze nalézt i tehdy, kdy to vůbec nečekáte.
