Air America je soukromá letecká linka CIA operující v Laosu během vietnamské války pašující cokoliv od vojáků přes zbraně až po jídlo pro místní obyvatele. Billy Covington (Robert Downey Jr.), kvůli své pracovní nekázni, přijde o letecký průkaz a tak mu nezbývá nic jiného než přijmout práci pro tuto leteckou linku. To ještě netuší, že se ocitne uprostřed skupiny šílených pilotů v čele s Genem Ryackem (Mel Gibson), vzbouřených povstalců a zkorumpovaných vládních vojáků pašujících drogy.
