Somewhere in medieval Flanders, the optimistic jester Diederik (Jens Dendoncker) and his half-sister Marie (Ayana Doucouré) find refuge in the castle of the newly crowned Countess Isabella of Haspengouw (Charlotte Timmers), who is determined to "modernize" her county after her father's death.
