Druhá sezóna, počínaje epizodou "The Dundies", dále rozvíjela zápletku strachu ze snižování počtu zaměstnanců společnosti, představila nové postavy a rozvinula některé vedlejší - zejména Dwighta Schruta. Michael Scott brzy naváže vztah se svou šéfkou Jan Levensonovou a, vztah Pam Beesleyové a Jima Halperta se stane jedním z ústředních bodů sezóny. Jejich soulad je stále zřejmější, protože Jimovy city k Pam stále rostou, zatímco ona se potýká se vztahem se skladníkem Royem Andersonem.
