Vypravěčka prochází neznámým městem, všímá si pozůstatků války, míst zničených při náletu v roce 1944 a poté zrekonstruovaných. Starý pilíř, který zůstal zachován, byl začleněn do nové stavby. Vnímá existenci své sestry jako tenhle pilíř, relikt patřící k vlastní minulosti. Tím, že o její smrti bude psát, jí může dát nový život.
